Kankore — Privacy Policy
Shosin Labs, an independent software studio (hereinafter the "Developer"), hereby establishes this Privacy Policy (hereinafter this "Policy") with respect to the handling of information in connection with the application かんコレ (Kankore) (hereinafter the "Application"), a handwriting practice application for Japanese characters intended for use by children with the involvement of their parents or guardians.
Article 1 (Purpose)
This Policy sets forth the information handled by the Application, the place in which such information is stored, the extent to which any such information is made available to the Developer or to any third party, and the means available to the User with respect to such information.
Article 2 (Definitions)
In this Policy, the following terms shall have the meanings set forth below:
- (a) "User" means any person who installs or uses the Application, including a child who practises with the Application and the parent or guardian of such child;
- (b) "Parent" means the parent or guardian who sets up the Application for a child and who uses the area of the Application reserved for parents;
- (c) "Practice Records" means the information the Application keeps in order to function: the profile of each child (an optional name entered by the Parent, the mark chosen for the child, the school grade and the range of characters opened), the settings of the Application, the characters practised and the results thereof, and the progress of each child's collection; and
- (d) "Usage Data" means the usage statistics concerning the Application that are collected by means of Google Firebase Analytics, as further specified in this Policy.
Article 3 (Information Handled)
The Application does not require or offer a user account, contains no advertising, offers no purchases, contains no links to websites or other applications, and does not track the User across applications or websites. Practice Records are never transmitted to the Developer or to any third party. The only information collected through the Application is Usage Data, as set forth in the Article entitled "Usage Statistics".
The Application does not request access to the camera, the microphone, the photo library, the location of the device, the contacts of the User, or any other protected function of the device. Handwriting is entered with a finger on the screen and is used to judge each stroke at the time it is written; the drawings themselves are not retained.
Article 4 (Storage of Practice Records)
Practice Records are stored on the device of the User and nowhere else by the Application. The Developer does not operate any server for the storage of Practice Records and has no access thereto.
The record of individual practice events, from which the area for parents shows the progress of each child, is kept for four hundred (400) days and older events are deleted automatically. The progress of each child's collection is kept for as long as the profile of that child exists.
The data of the Application may be included in a backup of the device that the User makes to the User's iCloud account or to a computer, in accordance with the backup settings of the device, so that Practice Records can be restored on a new device. Any such backup is held by Apple or by the User, and the Developer has no access thereto.
Article 5 (Usage Statistics)
The Application uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect Usage Data. Usage Data consists of (a) a copy of each event the Application records about its own use, namely the creation of a profile together with the school grade and range selected, the start and end of a day's practice together with the number of characters planned and completed and the time taken, each attempt at a character together with the character, the step, the result and the kind of any error, changes to the level of a character in the collection, the completion of a page of the collection, the opening of the collection and of free practice, the opening of a part of the area for parents, and changes to the grade or range; and (b) the information that Google Firebase Analytics records for any application, such as the device model, the operating system version, the version of the Application, the language and region of the device, and the times at which the Application is opened.
Usage Data never includes the name entered for a child or any other information that distinguishes one child from another on the same device. Usage Data is associated with a randomly generated identifier assigned to the installation of the Application, and not with the name of any User or with any account. The Application does not collect the advertising identifier of the device, does not permit Usage Data to be used for advertising or personalised advertising, and does not register with any advertising network.
The Developer uses Usage Data solely for the purposes of understanding how the Application is used and improving it. Usage Data is processed on behalf of the Developer by Google (see Firebase privacy information).
Article 6 (Children)
The Application is designed to be used by children, from before school age to the sixth year of elementary school. It is intended to be set up by a Parent, and the settings of the Application and the progress of each child are placed behind a gate that requires a press of three seconds, so that a young child does not reach them by accident.
The Developer does not ask children for, and the Application does not transmit, any information that identifies a child, such as a name, a date of birth, an address, a photograph or a voice recording. Usage Data, as described above, is collected from the installation of the Application and is used only for the purposes set forth in this Policy.
Article 7 (Deletion of Information)
A Parent may delete the profile of any child, together with that child's Practice Records, in the area of the Application reserved for parents, and the uninstallation of the Application deletes all data stored by the Application on the device of the User. A Parent may request the deletion of Usage Data associated with the installation of the Application by contacting the Developer at the address set forth in the Article entitled "Contact".
Article 8 (Amendment of this Policy)
The Developer may amend this Policy from time to time. In the event of any such amendment, the Developer shall revise the date of last update indicated at the top of this page.
Article 9 (Contact)
Inquiries concerning this Policy shall be directed to the Developer at support@shosin-labs.com.
